We purchased our home approximately eleven years ago and having subsequently spent tens of thousands of euro upgrading the visual aspect of property it became very clear that the real issues we needed to address related to aspects of the property that we could not see, issues with the roof, the electrical system, heating & plumbing and insulation to name but a few. With these concerns to the fore we embarked on a journey to undertake a complete a refurbishment of the entire 5,000 square foot house.At the very early stage of the process I made a decision not to employ the services of an architect, instead I chose to work with a project manager which meant that I needed to be very mindful that I appoint the right builder. Together we met with three builders in an attempt to design and price the job. While Shorycon were not the cheapest quotation, neither were they the most expensive. However, the energy and time that Declan displayed in listening to me and understanding my requirements deserves special mention, which in turn made choosing Shorycon an easy decision. Ultimately choosing Shorycon turned out to be the best decision I made in terms of the price and quality.
The project involved removing and reinstating the roof on the house while also removing all internal walls, floors, ceilings, plaster work, plumbing, heating & electrical. The entire interior of the house was striped back to the original external walls leaving us with nothing more than a shell. The following four months saw the house being rebuilt to the highest standard with additional extensions to both the front and back of the house. Throughout the job Declan made ongoing suggestions that were not in the original plan, each of which proved to improve the quality and standard of the finished job.
In summary I cannot praise both Declan and his team enough for the amazing job that they undertook in terms of presenting me with a home that has exceeded my own expectations. They deserve special mention for the quality of the work, the price came in as agreed, the friendly nature manners of his team, the additional suggestions to improve the finished job and finally they presented me with the house on the day that we agreed on at the start of the job.
People had told me that I was mad not employing an architect and that builders are notorious for overshooting on time and budget leading to a very stressful experience. This was not the case for me, Declan and his team helped me through a most enjoyable and exciting experience and I have no hesitation in recommending them. I now find myself living in a beautiful and comfortable home, I love it!!

Also separate new utility room, open plan hallway with new window seat and integrated storage area for shoes and coats and boiler and brooms.We cannot believe how much our home has been transformed and it only took 6 weeks. We love our home but had outgrown it and badly needed more space for our family. Our new open plan extension is like a magazine spread. Declan had great ideas which really enhanced the project. He really knows his stuff and has a huge amount of experience. Declan is especially gifted with ideas for interiors so we leaned on him a lot when making decisions on the kitchen, floor tiles and even paint colours! He made the whole project so easy for us – from our initial planning and budget meetings right through to the end and handed over our new home which now has complete wow factor. Declan kept it all managed and on track to the tiniest detail and all of his colleagues and suppliers were top class. The only stress we had was packing away stuff before we started the build! I miss the project now – It was such an enjoyable experience and we highly recommend Shorycon to anyone thinking about an extension or house renovation.
Two storey extension (305 sq ft approx.)to a three bedroom 1920’s terraced house with a new separate detached garage and utility room (255 sq ft approx).Thank you so much to Declan and the team for ensuring that our house renovations were as painless as possible. We renovated and extended a 3 bedroom terraced house and added a two storey extension, converted the attic and built a large detached garage and utility room with rear laneway access. Having used Shorycon to extend our previous home we had no doubts as to their capabilities in undertaking such a task.
We had the house replummed, rewired, new bathroom/wetroom, kitchen, underfloor heating, central vacuum system and they even left the garden, front and rear, ready for planting. All-in-all the house was ready to move into and enjoy as soon as they were finished, there were no jobs left unfinished. We were quite sure about how we wanted the house to look when it was finished and we felt listened to and supported every step of the way, and Declan offered very creative and practical solutions to any difficulties that arose (as happens in an old house). We had moved out of the house during the work but every time we visited, whether they were there or not, the house was tidy and secure and several of our neighbours commented on how courteous and respectful all the team were, in fact two of our neighbours subsequently had extensions done by Shorycon.
We would happily recommend Shorycon for any building work and would definitely employ them if we ever need work done in the future.
I engaged Shorycon to do refurbishment work to my house and from start to finish, I was very impressed with the tradesmen and their level of professionalism. Declan O’Donnell was great to work with and took the time to explain everything as it went along. The company was recommended to me by a neighbour who had an extension built by them.
